Caring for your Australian Labradoodle Puppy
- Please schedule a Vet appointment, with your Veterinarian within 72 hours of receiving your puppy. Be sure to bring in a fresh stool sample the day of your appointment. Please let me (Aladdin Labradoodles) know of any health concerns your Veterinarian may have. When you do go to your Vet Appointment , please take his/her shot card with you , as your Veterinarian will need it to schedule his/her puppy shots.
- It is not a good idea to bring your puppy to public places, until he/she has all puppy Vaccinations. If you keep to your puppy’s shot schedule, your puppy will complete all necessary puppy shots by 4 months of age. If you do take your puppy to Pet Stores Please CARRY your puppy, Do Not put him /her on the ground. Many puppy diseases can be contracted simply by your puppy walking in the same area as the infected dog.
- We at Aladdin feed our Australian Labradoodles only premium quality dry & canned dog food. We will send you home with a small bag of the food we feed so the transition from our food to whatever quality food you choose will be smooth. Please change his/her food over one week, so that his/her system isn't stressed thereby causing diarrhea. I suggest feeding your puppy 2 or 3 times daily. Always have water available, however I would suggest no food or water available for your puppy after 8 PM, at least until he/she is housebroken. Please see instructions on Housebreaking.
- Ear maintenance is necessary. It is important to keep your puppy's ears clean & dry to prevent ear infections. You should be able to find ear cleaning & drying products from your Veterinarian or Pet Stores.
- It is not a good idea to run with your puppy on any hard surface or at all until your puppy has matured and his/her growth plates have closed .Any sustained exercise , beyond what your puppy would naturally do ( play), will require more stamina and joint stability then your puppy has . Please keep this in mind.
- It is of Paramount importance to take your puppy to OBEDIENCE class and socialization class. I suggest taking him/her at 4 months of age (if not sooner) and continuing throughout their Puppy Hood. Training fosters bonding, and will reward you & your Puppy for mutual Companionship. These dogs are VERY Smart; therefore I cannot stress enough the importance of this crucial step.
- Protecting your puppy from young children is something to keep in mind. Your puppy must have a safe place to go IE) their crate. Please make it very clear that with all family members to respect the puppy's crate time. When he/she is in his/her crate, he/she shouldn't be disturbed, until Mom or Dad takes your puppy out. This suggestion goes hand in hand with Aladdin's housebreaking instructions.
- Shampoo your puppy not more than once a month, and please use a tearless shampoo. I suggest using a comb with wide teeth, for their coats. Their puppy coats wash & wear marvelous and easy, however once they begin the transition from puppy to adult (8 months to 1year) it can be a daunting transition. Their puppy coats will separate from their skin, but it does not fall out ....you must comb it or your puppy will mat. This transition generally lasts about 8 months. Once their adult coat comes in ...it is ever so much more manageable. Please contact me with any problems or just because you'd like to “chit-chat “about your your adorable puppy. I'd love to hear all about him/her any time.
